Confessions of a workaholic
Are you a workaholic? I didn't realize until the last few years how much I like to work, and that it if I'm not constantly busy, then I don't know what to do with myself.
I took a few days off a couple weeks ago and it was hard. I felt guilty. Once I got into the groove of being off though, I really enjoyed the quiet time. More importantly, I think the break was great as far as my own creativity in coming up with class ideas.
My kids are grown now and after homeschooling them and having them with me all the time, I was used to the noise. It was like the noise was a comfort to me. Now with one kid moved out and the other hardly ever here, it's A LOT of quiet. At first, it made me so uncomfortable. I'd turn on the TV, play music, anything to lessen the quiet.
Now that I've had some time to adjust, I'm finding that I really enjoy the quiet. It gives me time to think and relax in an otherwise busy day.
No one should ever feel guilty for taking time off. Yoga has taught me how good it is for the soul. It's about finding that balance between the work and the rest.
To help me adjust to those quiet times, or when I just need to get away from all of it, I made a sanctuary in my home. I bought an egg chair where I love to sit and read, meditate, light some candles, or incense, etc....It's a lot easier when you have a spot or two planned out in advance where you can go to relax.
So work, but then know it's ok to rest.
Have a great week!
