HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

lisaLisa Thomas May 8, 2022

Whether you are spending the day with your mom, your pets, or your kids, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day.

I've been doing a lot of reflecting recently about my own life. When I was younger, my mom and I spent a lot of time together. We would shop, go to the movies, talk, and she really was my best friend. I cherish these memories.

Then when I had my two kids, what a transition that was! The daily grind when they were little, the homeschooling, the sick days, nights of no sleep, and just trying to get through everyday. It was hard, but I also feel like they were the best days of my life with lots of laughs and all around fun times.

When I look back now though, I fear that I didn't enjoy it enough, that I wasn't present enough. There are many things about that time that are hard for me to recall, especially after my daughter's Type 1 diagnosis. Sometimes I wish I could go back and get a do-over. Does anyone else feel like this too?

Now, being a yogi, I try to be more present when I spend time with my kids or my mom. I don't answer my phone and I don't take teaching jobs on the days when my kids are off. This is really important as we can't get time back.

I saw this passage and thought I'd share because it really is for everyone, not just moms:

"You can't skip chapters, that's not how life works. You have to read every line, meet every character. You won't enjoy all of it. Some chapters will make you cry for weeks. You will read things you don't want to read, you will have moments when you don't want the pages to end. But you have to keep going. Stories keep the world revolving. Live yours, don't miss out."

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Namaste,

Lisa
