Tips for daylight savings time

Tips for daylight savings time

lisaLisa Thomas Mar 12, 2022

It's ironic that I would be typing this today, a week away from spring, with a snowstorm in full blast. March is definitely unpredictable.

Tonight we prepare for daylight savings time by setting our clocks ahead one hour. During this solar transition, it's easy to become ungrounded and knowing how to adjust to the time change can save you a day's worth of delay and grogginess. Here are a few tips that I wanted to share:

  1. Create A Calming Nighttime Ritual Rubbing some essential oils on your wrist before bed can be very relaxing. Or try a lavender towel on the forehead to release the stress and tension from your day. If you are not an oils fan, try a regular eye pillow, these an be very calming too. Creating a routine helps signal to the body and mind that it's time to rest. This allows the digestive system to slow down and the body to heal.

  2. Create A Tech Free Zone

I'm guilty of this. We've been busy all day, haven't had a second to even glance at our phones and catch up on the latest news. Did you know that taking your phone to bed can actually increase your heart rate and blood pressure by stimulating your mind, and making it harder to sleep? Try turning the tv off a little earlier and setting your phone aside.

  1. Mediate Before Bed

Try meditating or sitting quietly for a few minutes before bed. You can even do this in bed. The end of the day is a great time to remind yourself what you have to be grateful for, close your eyes, or keep a soft gaze, and breathe.

  1. Take It Easy This Week

Feeling more tired this week is completely normal. Give yourself some grace and if you can, rest, even for a few minutes.

I hope these tips are helpful as we prepare to shift into spring and more daylight.

This week in classes, we will be celebrating the arrival of spring by planting new "seeds," and realizing what we'd like to accomplish in this new season of growth. (Plus a few relaxing yoga poses to help you recover from lost sleep).

Looking forward to seeing you this week.

Stay safe (and warm today)
